Where to upload your files

Where should you transfer your files to to? One of the main considerations will be - " Is the File released under a Creative Commons Licence?" A creative common licence allows you to let others show and distribute your work while preventing others from making money from distibuting it. [that's how it nomally works although it is much more flexible than that]

If you do release it under a creative commons licence then you can upload it either to the main Indymedia Video site -http://video.indymedia.org or the Internet Archive Project http://www.archive.org. If not you may need to find your own space to upload it to. For a list of suitable sites try looking this list. If you feel that your video is relevant to people doing public screenings in the UK or Europe feel free to get in contact with us at clearerchannel.org. We may be able to help.

There are other sites which allow you to upload your files or get better coverage for them. Sites like Video Bomb and Yahoo Video allow you to submit an RSS feed of your video content so that it can be included in their searches and showcase sites.

There are some issues to be sensitive of when you are uploading to other sites. For example Google Video will do the same thing but then your video content will appear next to their adverts. Also there are advantages to promoting your own channels rather than just feeding into those of other organisations. You keep your own autonomy and build an online community which cannot be taken away from you if someone else's business plan changes.

These Clearer channel help files are designed to be as clear as we can make them. They are also used for training sessions. We want video collectives and media activists to be able to contribute Media files themselves. To help make this happen, we run training sessions every 2 months. If you are interested in these training sessions please get in contact - training @ clearerchannel . org
